Agriculture is undoubtedly the primary source of livelihood in the regions where JAGO GAON functions and operates. With current low levels of productivity in agriculture, it is a constant endeavour of JAGO GAON to extend assistance in finding opportunities to enhance the agricultural production and thus the livelihood. It is worth mentioning that over half of JAGO GAON livelihood programmes are focused on agriculture, its amelioration, and the overall management of natural resources, which remains the key in the battle against endemic poverty in the rural areas.
Enhancing productivity and diversification forms a part of the core strategies of JAGO GAON agriculture programmes. Specific activities include the attempts to increase productivity of the main cereal crops to improve food security, and encouraging the diversification into cash crops such as pulses, oil seeds, and vegetables.
JAGO GAON seeks to ensure sustainability in all undertaken endeavours. In order to achieve this, the organisation trains and deploys several of agriculture extension entrepreneurs to the field. Producers’ institutions around agriculture are formed and strengthened as well.
